A wedding dress to be

I’ve been asked to do a wedding dress. Now everybody I know who does any sewing, literally everybody, have warned me about aout wedding dresses, but hey, what could possibly go wrong, right?

There’s no pattern, just at photo of what she wants, so first there was the construction of the pattern.I made the muslin from and old duvet cover. It was thin enough to resemble the chiffon that will be on the outside My son, coming in, stood silent for a moment and then carefully asked, “She’s getting married in that?” The bride-to be, however, understood that it’s a dummy and didn’t faint.

The trying on of the muslin went really well (so far so good) but I actually hesitated before cutting the beautiful silk, simply because it’s so pretty. And expensive. But everything went fine.

  4. How intimidating! But I’m sure you can do it. You might even get to keep the scraps after cutting the dress. And then that will be fun to play with too!

  7. The dress pattern looks lovely, what a great idea for a toile! It is daunting cutting your first piece of fabric. I am sure it is going to look fantabulous.
