Happy penguins

Three pairs of trunks to be delivered.

I’ve praised these before and I’ll do it again- and no, I’m just a happy customer.

The pattern can be found here, although make sure to be careful if you choose to download the pattern for reasons discussed before.

If life’s a bowl of cherries…

…why is it so damn hard to take a picture of a bra while I’m wearing it?

20160706_164036

The perspective is really weird, but it’s finished at least, and not a minute too soon, since my old ones are literally falling apart. I made it in double fabrics, but the covering cherry print rips reaaaalllly easy, so don’t know for how long this one will be amongst the living.

Fear of the walking UFOs

So where does this reluctance to finish things come from? The shirt just needs buttons, and the dress just need facings .

Instead I decide it’s time for a new bra.

Coming along

I’m working on the swimming suit I promised my mom for Christmas (it’s only March after all) and it’s coming along nicely.

I think all of us who’ve grown a chest have experienced the same frustration when it comes to swimming wear. In the stores you can find skimpy outfits in thin materials that give no support whatsoever. Uncomfortable is just the start of it, beach volleyball? forget it!

So when I finally stumbled on a swimming suit with a built in bra that actually works, my happiness knew no limits. I’ve applied that model when I constructed this one.

First I copied an old swimming suit that my mom had and that fitted her. I then made an extra top half of the front and sew some elastic onto the bottom line as. I decided to have the entire suit in double fabrics as well, for extra sturdiness, and mom has tried on the lining.

The built in bra is attached at the side seam and a band with fasteners will go across the back to make sure the elastic is kept tight.

I will try to get it done berfore this years season is over, but my personal deadline for Christmas gifts is before next Christmas eve, so I have another 287 days or so. Should work.

She’s not a cow

My mom wanted a new swimming suit for x-mas, I volunteered to make one. I had this crazy fabric in my stash and she liked it.

I’ve copied an old swimming suit of hers, but am improving it. I have one with a built in sports bra that I love and am using the same idea for hers

So I’ve made a prototype in white (which is supposed to be lining) for her to try on.

This is what I truly enjoy in dress-making and art in general, to solve a problem and create something that didn’t exist before. As much as I see the benefits of following a pattern, I’m not creating. I follow directions which is not the same thing. To repeat myself bores me.

That said, I do use patterns, most of the time even. It’s practical, it’s fun. But it’s not creating. Unless I change something.

‘Tis the time of the year…

…when I start making lots of trunks. If you want to make your own x-mas gifts and is looking for something not too difficult but very appreciated. look no further.Foto-1987 I’ve made lots of comox trunks, and had lots of praise. You buy the pattern here (it’s not mine, not connected to me in any way, I just like it).

I’ve got plans to change the pattern and take away the baggy front to fit me as well, will let you know how that goes.

Like a broken record

Yes I know, I’ve been blogging of the same things for a while now. The plan was to have a lot ready for Pride week, but I didn’t manage, so the new plan is a market in August. Just keep swimming

And if they don’t sell, there are a lot of upcoming birthdays and even a Christmas if I’m not mistaken
