Starting over

20170402_2143251.jpgLately I seem to have even more difficulties  finishing things than i usually do. I can’t remember when I finished something last. I do know when the last time I started a new project happened, though- it’s today!

I’m making a dance top, sort of like an Indian choli. Constructing a new pattern by merging and modifying old ones. This is one of the things I enjoy most of all when it comes to sewing, but to actually wear the things I make is kinda fun too. Let’s see if this one ever come that far.

Christmas sweater

Paddy K has talked about a Christmas sweater for years, and i wanted to make him one, but every year the time before Christmas was waaaay to short for me to knit one.

Last year, I came up with the idea of buying a second hand sweater and doing embroidery onto it, but again the time, the time…

So this year ( I mean in time for last Christmas) I figured I would get the sweater and some decorations and sew them on. I found some santa hats, socks, a bow all of it in thrift shops, and set to work.

I was really pleased with my idea and the result. Then a few days before the day, a craft store in stockholm sent home a catalog where you could buy a DIY set for exactly the same thing! Well, at least mine was original.

Indian culottes

My sister brought me back these beautiful fabrics when she was in India last year. I’ve cut out another pair of short wide pants, or culottes as I’ve learned they’re called. here I was, thinking I’d come up with the idea of them on my own.

The fabric is really thin, so I’ll have to make at least the upper half lined, I think. And maybe a matching blouse in the gold colored fabric?

Drops floating colors

My niece gave me this Drops yarn for Christmas, the color floats through purple, blue and turquoise, some of my favorite colors! Since I had practised knitting socks all december I decided it was time to make a pair for myself as well, I love how they turned out!20170314_124025[1]

Pantsy schmantsy

I cut out these pants a long time ago and finally sat down to sew them together, I I really needed some new ones. The patterns looks smashing although I’m not all crazy about the late seventies fashion. Not sure they look like the picture, maybe should take them in some more, but…well

Mittens

I’m really a fan of these reflective thread yarns from Järbo. I’ve been doing a lot of knitting lately so decided to go back to crochet for a while. This, I hope, will be a pair of mittens. The first one is always fun to figure out, but then I have to make a second one like it and remember how I did it. At the moment I’m confident, though.

Robocop’s achilles heel

After opening up and fixing a number of sewing machines, I’ve learned that a very common “fault” is that the spool pin is broken, or not even broken,  it’s just come loose. This machine, found in a garbage room, was no exemption. And also the lamp was missing.

I had to open it completely, and really, plastic is not my favorite material. With older vintage machines there’s screws holding metal in place- this one had hooks holding the plastic shell together. However, once I’ve begun, I just can’t stop, and behold:20160719_222214.jpg

The naked machinemade me think of Robocop . Mighty as he may be, the next picture showsis the very tiny plastic part that made him useless.

So now I’m sitting on two functioning machines.

(And two with parts missing)
