Put a ring on it

I made this dress last summer and used it a bit but never really like it, despite the colors and despite it being linen. It somehow felt too clumsy.

I decided  a reason could be that the waist is too low to be high and too high to be low, so I figured a belt would pull the waistline further down. Worth a try.

I had to buy the belt buckle, was aiming for a white one for a sixtie’s touch, but couldn’t find one. This red one which-isn’t-the-same-color-but-close-enough worked fine I think.

We’ll see if I like it better now. My expression isn’t too promising I’d say, but I’ve worn it. Seeing the pictures I’m thinnking naybe i should shorten the skirt as well.

I stumbled upon this dress in the bargain box at a thrift store. It has one shoulder strap missing, which I suppose is the reason it was in the box. I don’t normally like polyester or ruffles, but something with the color and how it’s cut got my attention.

I don’t like the remaining pearl spaghetti strap so I’ll take that away and do something else. Although I could  get the dress on, I couldn’t move in it, so I’ll have to losen it a little, luckily there’s plenty of fabric in the seams. We’ll see how it ends up

Nothing beats a Burda

For some time now I’ve wanted to sew in linen, but the pieces I’ve got in my stash aren’t really large enough to make something from. I decided to use the purple/blue that I  once made a dress from, and combine it with a white tablecloth that I bought in a second hand store some time ago. It has coffee stains that don’t go away when I wash it, but I like how it’s woven in a checkered pattern.

I’ll use dress 108 from Burda 2/2001, the first Burda I ever bought, and this dress is a favorite I’ve made several times. The Burda magazine brings back memories of my my mom buying it when I was a child.

Since the magazine is 14 years old, it’s probably very outdated, but I don’t worry much about what’s in, I make my own style.
