In Santa’s workshop

Foto-2008When I tried to do some x-mas shopping today, my bank card wouldn’t allow any withdrawals. I got the hint and went home. I have plenty of ideas and patterns and a fabric stash that is plentiful to say the least.

Time to start working.

Thimble

Foto-1976

When i was 15, my grandmother, who was an antiques dealer, gave me this silver thimble. At the time I didn’t think much of it, and as years have past I would wonder why a thimble would have to be fancy anyways. I kept it, but since I always dreaded hand sewing never really used it much.

Now when i’m caught in the ebroidery addiction, I’ve come to realize how much nicer this thimble is compared to the cheap ones I have plenty of. It’s feels much better on my finger, I now use it every sewing day and get to think of Grandma Anna-Lisa as a bonus.

Baby it’s cold outside

Foto-1964It’s getting cold, so I’ve made a cape for Mimi, the statue I dressed up this summer.

The challenge is to get her arms into it. I’ve made two rectangular openings and hope they’ll be in the right place.

Of course, i could have taken her measurements last time, but where’s the sport in that?

I made the openings by sewing a rectangle of fabric on the right side of the cape, where I wanted the openings. I then cut an opennig in the middle, turned them inside out and fastened the rim with a very narrow zig sag. Foto-1962

Step by step

Slowly progressing with the wedding dress, the silk dress is done and time to start with the chiffon cover. The time I spend actually sewing is nothing compared to what I spend thinking, but working without a ready pattern is always more fun.

Iron woman

Experimenting wiith my iron and the silk for the wedding dress. As some of you know, water will stain silk, but it appears on this fabric the very ironing leaves marks. And I will have to press seams.

I’ve had the tip to carefully wash the fabric, I might do that with the bodice, but I dread washing the skirt.

A wedding dress to be

I’ve been asked to do a wedding dress. Now everybody I know who does any sewing, literally everybody, have warned me about aout wedding dresses, but hey, what could possibly go wrong, right?

There’s no pattern, just at photo of what she wants, so first there was the construction of the pattern.I made the muslin from and old duvet cover. It was thin enough to resemble the chiffon that will be on the outside My son, coming in, stood silent for a moment and then carefully asked, “She’s getting married in that?” The bride-to be, however, understood that it’s a dummy and didn’t faint.

The trying on of the muslin went really well (so far so good) but I actually hesitated before cutting the beautiful silk, simply because it’s so pretty. And expensive. But everything went fine.

Yes I know, I’ve been blogging of the same things for a while now. The plan was to have a lot ready for Pride week, but I didn’t manage, so the new plan is a market in August. Just keep swimming

And if they don’t sell, there are a lot of upcoming birthdays and even a Christmas if I’m not mistaken

Trunks!

More trunks coming up! Notice the really cool waist elastic I bought from Bodil!

Celebrity meets

20140629_163930Really happy after my class yesterday with Beverly Johnson from Bramakers. This woman is a living oracle when it comes to pattern construction for bras and underwear. I’ve read her blog for years and bought supplies from the web store Bramakers supply I strongly recommend her site for anyone interested in this, and by all means, take a class with her if you can! Please not that I’m just a very happy customer.

And in two weeks, Dolly Parton is coming as well, although I doubt I’ll have the chance to be in the same picture as her.

To be Madonna. Or almost
